![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We were one of the first groups to arrive at Chacchoben, so it was less crowded. Our guide, Diego, his assistant Yoshi, and driver, Heriberto, were all very friendly, helpful, accommodating, and knowledgeable. It was a bit of a hike for the kiddo to get out of the port and get to the area where The Native Choice was located, but we found it with no problem. Dad and the older sibling decided to go fishing with a private guide, Will Robins (whom we also highly recommend) the mom and a kindergartener decided to visit Chachoben and the 7 color lagoon. We visited Costa Maya in January 2023 on the Serenade of the Seas. It was an amazing, professional experience from start to finish. If you want to visit an impressive Mayan site-and are nervous cruisers like us-I cannot recommend Native Choice enough. The tour lasted about 2 hours, which was just enough to cover all the main sites, and get us back to our ship with time to spare. (Fortunately, we went during the dry season so bugs were not an issue.) We had a great time scaling three of the largest temples (be warned: it’s quite a workout!) and to his credit, Joel accompanied us each time so he could point out important details and explain what we were seeing. The temples are very impressive and set in a lovely-not dense-jungle setting. I’m many ways, Dzibanche reminded us of a smaller, more intimate Tikal. When we arrived, we were thrilled to discover we had the site all to ourselves (other than a family of howler monkeys overhead). Since it is such a long driveway we’re concerned (to put it mildly) about missing our ship but the staff at Native Choice made us feel completely comfortable.Īs promised, we left right on time and our guide Joel helped pass the time by teaching us about Mayan history and giving us an overview of the site.
